The National Council on Family Relations (NCFR), founded in 1938, provides an educational forum for family researchers, educators, and practitioners to share in the development and dissemination of knowledge about families and family relationships, establishes professional standards, and works to promote family well-being.

Family Relations publishes applied articles that are original, innovative and interdisciplinary and that focus on diverse families and family issues. Audiences include educators in academic and community settings, researchers with an applied or evaluation focus, family practitioners, and family policy specialists. Appropriate articles include empirically based applied research, critical syntheses of relevant substantive areas, program evaluations, and educational philosophy/practice.
Both the Journal of Marriage and Family and Family Relations: Interdisciplinary Journal of Applied Family Studies are owned and copyrighted by National Council on Family Relations. However, permissions are now being handled through the Blackwell Publishing.
